Man arrested after allegedly assaulting pregnant partner and kidnapping baby, sparking huge police response
A man has been arrested after a 10-month-old baby was allegedly kidnapped at Mentone on Tuesday, sparking a massive police response across Melbourne.
It’s alleged the man’s pregnant partner was assaulted at Mentone before he led police on a pursuit, threatening to harm himself and the baby.
3AW Afternoons was flooded with calls about a police pursuit on the Monash Freeway in the early hours of the afternoon.
The pursuit was eventually called off for safety reasons, but Victoria Police later confirmed a Wodonga man, 25, was arrested on the Hume Highway at Donnybrook at 6pm on Tuesday.
The baby is safe and well.
Two officers suffered non-life threatening injuries during the arrest.
Another two men also arrested at the scene are assisting police with their enquiries.
The Wodonga man is under police guard in hospital this morning.
