Gargasoulas sentence delayed until January because judge is going on holiday
The prison sentence for Bourke Street murderer James Gargasoulas won’t be handed down for months, despite a jury coming to a guilty decision in under an hour yesterday.
“The families need to try and get on with life,” Neil Mitchell said.
“Nope.
“The next hearing is not until late January, that’s more than two months away.
“They will then have the trauma of presenting their victim impact statements to the court.
“Why?
“The judge, Justice Mark Weinberg, is going on holiday to Switzerland.
“I know he’s a good man. I know he’s a well-respected judge. I know he works hard and deserves a holiday, but there must be a way to get around this, it’s absurd.
“Absurd that victims sit waiting while the judge goes off on holiday.
“I don’t know how you fix it but it needs to be fixed.”
