Neil Mitchell slams “appalling” decision to grant “Tinder rapist” bail
The decision to grant bail to a serial rapist who blamed, stalked and harassed one of his victims was an “appalling and dangerous” oversight, says Neil Mitchell.
“Tinder rapist” Glenn Hartland has admitted to raping two women in 2014, raping a third woman in 2016 and indecently assaulting a fourth woman in 2015.
The incidents happened in South Yarra, Elwood, St Kilda and Prahran.
Neil Mitchell said the system had failed by granting him bail.
“I was furious about this at the time and said so,” he said.
“He was always going to do this.”
Hartland cried in court as he pleaded guilty to the charges last month.
“I hope he’s got 15 years of crying ahead of him,” Neil Mitchell said.
“But I wouldn’t bet on it.
“I don’t think the system works that way.”
