The extreme lengths small business owners have to go to get customers to pay
Small business owners have detailed the extreme lengths they often have to go to get customers and clients to pay up.
It comes as the small business ombudsman prepares to release a report, which will “name and shame” slow payers.
It’s something that really annoys Tom Elliott.
“When a small business goes bust, this is usually why,” he said.
“They are victims of a cash squeeze.
“People just don’t seem to pay on time.”
Ashley Stacey owns a land surveying business and told Tom Elliott getting customers to pay on time was near impossible.
“They often just ignore calls, or hang up on me,”
“We do engage debt collection services but they often give the collectors any excuse under the sun.
“They keep evading until we engage legal action but that takes time and is costly.”
