Victoria’s road toll sixteen percent higher than this time last year
Victoria’s road toll is 16% higher than this time last year.
Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer tells Ross and John it’s a significant amount and it means a huge amount to those that have lost loved ones.
‘We’re losing someone every day and a half in Victoria and that’s a number we just can’t accept.’ He tells 3AW Breakfast.
There are around 2000 new drivers hitting our roads every week.
‘Our roads are safer, our cars are safer, but people are still making vital mistakes and having fatal consequences.’
A further two drivers at Point Cook and Horsham have been added to the road toll, despite the Melbourne Cup long weekend road safety blitz.
Operation Furlong has also detected a number of motorists drink-driving, including a 39-year-old man who blew point two two eight at Port Fairy yesterday.
