The son of entertainer and 3AW Mornings regular Red Symons, Samuel Symons, has passed away overnight.

Neil Mitchell read out a statement provided to 3AW from Red and his family:

It is with the deepest sadness Red announces the passing of his beautiful son Samuel Symons.

Samuel passed peacefully overnight surrounded by his family.

We ask that you please respect the privacy of Red and his family at this very sad and difficult time.

Samuel Symons, 27, was first diagnosed with cancer as a young child. In May, his work with cancer patients was recognised with an Outstanding Achievement by a Young Volunteer Award at the Minister for Health Volunteer Awards ceremony.

Neil Mitchell expressed his sympathy to Red and his family.

“In his short time on this program, Red has become very much loved, and he has been very much loved in this town for a long time,” he said.

“He is a delightful, friendly, engaging man, and I feel for his family going through this.”
