Road-rage related offences have risen year on year across Melbourne suburbs, with road user violence and “confrontation” offences now at 16 a week.

According to figures published by the Herald Sun, Victoria seems to be becoming a road rage hot spot and Melbourne is leading the way, with Casey, Greater Dandenong and Port Phillip among the worst local government areas for road rage.

“At least 16 a week and think of the unreported incidents,” Tony Jones said.

Acting superintendent road policing Simon Stevens told 3AW Mornings most crimes started as minor traffic incidents that exploded into serious attacks.

“It can come from something very, very minor,” Acting Superintendent Stevens said.

“From tooting a horn, an unfriendly gesture, right through to really serious matters for which you can get yourself arrested.”

“Sometimes you just need to slow down and think where do I need to get to, and get there safely.”
