McGuire confirms “vigorous” debate to occur around rule changes
Eddie McGuire says they’ll be “vigorous debate” about the 18-metre goal square.
The Collingwood president said an AFL Commission meeting this weekend would decide the fate of the numerous floated rule changes.
“I think 6-6-6 (starting positions) will come in and I think there’s some debate (to be had) about the goal square,” he said.
McGuire also has hit back at critics of The Footy Show in the wake of Sam Newman’s explosive editorial on Thursday night’s program.
Newman, who has been a mainstay at the program in its 25-year existence, announced he would quit the show after next week’s Grand Final edition.
3AW Drive host Tom Elliott said the show would be axed next year in favour of a refreshed program, with McGuire to depart as host.
We played the audio to Eddie and he responded, comparing the show’s current issues with Collingwood last year.
“We’ll see what happens,” he said.
“I reckon the shows have been good and we’ll come back and do what we’ve always do.”
“Look out, we’re back.”
