The Executive Officer of Women in Super has welcomed Labor’s new $400 million plan to narrow the superannuation gap between men and women.

Under the policy, new mothers will be offered top-ups on their super for up to 18 weeks, while dads will only receive payments over two weeks.

Sandra Buckley told Tom Elliott more needed to be done to help working mums.

However, Tom said it wasn’t compulsory to have children.

“The more you work, the more super you get – that’s how it works,” he said.

“It’s not a pension.”
