A P-plate driver has allegedly been clocked speeding 80 kilometres over the limit at Laverton.

Police nabbed the Volkswagon Golf allegedly travelling at 180km/hr on the Princess Freeway at 1.30am.

An 18-year-old allegedly behind the wheel told officers he was on his way to visit his sick girlfriend.

His car has been impounded for 30 days and is expected to be charged on summons.

He’s also been slapped with a near $900 dollar fine.
