Authorities will review the response from agencies into last week’s massive factory fire in West Footscray.

Arson squad detectives have been called in to investigate the blaze, which continued over the weekend and blanketed the western suburbs in thick, black smoke.

MFB’s Chief Fire Officer Dan Stephens praised the efforts of first responders in preventing the “well-developed” blaze from spreading to neighbouring factories.

He said it would be difficult to establish the cause of the fire, given the sheer size of it.

“It could have been a lot worse,” he told Neil Mitchell on 3AW Mornings.

He said all agencies involved, including the EPA, DELP and Emergency Management Victoria would be involved in the debrief.

“We continually look at ways to improve,” he said.
