3AW DRIVE SPECIAL: How to tackle Melbourne’s homelessness problem
Homelessness continues to be a massive problem for Melbourne.
But what can be done to fix it?
Tom Elliott hosted a round table panel on Monday, with three prominent figures joining him.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp says it’s “unacceptable” a city such as ours has people living on the street.
Kate Colvin, from the Council for Homeless Persons, said 110,000 people in Victoria sought out homelessness services over the course of a year.
“It’s a big problem,” she said.
Major Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army said family violence often led to people leaving home without financial support, which could lead to drug and alcohol abuse.
“It’s a very slippery slope from there,” he said.
