Although Q de Kock went on to make 84, resurrecting South Africa’s poor start of 5/81 to finish with 242, the final session of day one belonged entirely to David Warner (73 n.o.)   He was relaxed and positive, hitting boundaries off the back foot and sixes off the top edge.  Determination and effort dragged Shaun Marsh (29 n.o.) out of single figures contributing to an opening partnership of 105.

An excellent unbeaten half century in the second session from Quinton de Kock gives South Africa hope of posting a competitive score.  A bat-pad special from Shaun Marsh to dismiss the fighting Bavuma (51)  will mean that he will be fielding there for sometime.  And Damien Fleming reckons Mitch Starc is eyeing off a 5for.

On a pitch resembling the WACA of old, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat.  A cracking start at the hands of the returning Josh Hazlewood saw South African struggle to settle, losing 4 quick wickets. Thanks to a positive stand between the captain Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma, South Africa were able to get to lunch for 4/78
