There are major delays across the train network in the western suburbs this morning after an equipment fault in the Newport area.

Buses are replacing trains between Laverton and Footscray and Williamstown and Footscray.

The replacement buses have been dispatched but may take more than 45 minutes to arrive.

Metro expects passenger’s journey times to be extended by 60-90 minutes.
