AFL boss Gillon McLachlan says the league is putting the “finishing touches” on its plan for football in Tasmania.

It’s been reported the state’s VFL team will be revived in the coming years.

Speaking with Neil Mitchell, the AFL chief executive said the league wanted to address talent pathway issues, as well as tension between local leagues.

“All will be revealed on Tuesday,” McLachlan said.

He also responded to calls from AFL legend Leigh Matthews to introduce a send-off rule.

The issue has been a discussion point this week following the five-game ban handed to Jeremy Cameron for an ugly hit on Harris Andrews that left the Brisbane defender with bleeding on the brain.

“It’s a fair question, but I don’t think so,” McLachlan said.

“We have a judicial system that works, these sorts of instances where we’ve got four, five, six-week suspensions are isolated now and have broadly been taken out of the game.

“I think the process now where in the cold light of day you get to review things and people are held accountable to the right extent is the right way forward.”
