‘It’s not a question of rights’: Graham Ashton responds to safety concerns for women after Carlton death
Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton says women should be able to walk freely around Melbourne alone at any time of the day or night.
Responding to concerns about women’s safety in public places following the death of Eurydice Dixon, Mr Ashton said he appreciated it had a ripple effect on the sense of fear and anger in the community.
“These are absolute tragedies and when they are stranger related they even become a more fearful event in the community,” he said.
