Absolutely nuts: Hardware store refuses cash payments under $5
RUMOUR CONFIRMED
A hardware store in Melbourne’s outer-east is refusing cash payments less than $5, the Rumour File has confirmed.
This morning 3AW Breakfast were told by a customer who wanted to pay $2.20 in cash that the store was ‘enforcing a minimum cash transaction amount’.
The man was forced to handover a $5 note for his $2.20 worth of hardware.
Ferntree Gully Nuts and Bolt later confirmed this is accurate.
An employee said the policy was ‘due to a time-requirement’ (that it’s not worth their time if people aren’t spending much money) and that most times customers oblige.
