Greens staffer likely to blame for offensive social media post, says party leader
Greens leader Richard Di Natale has categorically rejected suggestions his party his anti-Semitic, saying a Greens staffer was likely to blame for an offensive post on social media.
A Facebook post by Greens MP Adam Bandt telling the Labor Party to oppose the Coalition’s “tax cuts for millionaires” included Nazi-sympathiser imagery of a Jewish banker from the 1930s.
It’s since been deleted.
Speaking on 3AW, Mr Di Natale said it was a misunderstanding that his party apologised “unreservedly” for.
“The image, I think, was selected by a staffer from a website which basically has a whole lot of images you can use,” Mr Di Natale explained on 3AW Drive.
“Nobody had any idea about the history of the image.
“The moment it was brought to his attention, it was taken down and he apologised unreservedly.
“It was a mistake, it shouldn’t have happened, he’s apologised, I’ll apologise on his behalf – I know Adam very well and there was absolutely no attention here to cause offence.”
