Geelong forward Esava Ratugolea will be sidelined indefinitely after suffering a horrific ankle injury on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old broke the tibia and fibula at the ankle of his right leg after it was trapped under him in a marking contest.

In order to stabilise the injury, a plate and screws were inserted, before undergoing surgery.

He has been ruled out indefinitely, with no time frame on an expected return.
