‘They’ve gone out of their way to help me’: 88-year-old Joseph thanks community
The 88-year-old victim of an aggravated burglary in Mentone last month has told Neil Mitchell how he’s suffered in the weeks after the traumatic incident.
Last month, Joseph told Neil Mitchell a man entered his bedroom about 6am, demanding his valuables.
Joseph said he, ‘sort of went outside his own body’ and went after the man with an axe handle.
Today he told Neil he’s still getting flashbacks of the incident.
“I suffered post-traumatic stress, I was walking around wondering where my marbles were for a while,” Joseph said.
“I’ve spoken to a couple of doctors.
“It still flashes back a bit, but yeah I’m getting there.”

He also thanked Julian and Damien from beOnd Electrical, who donated a day’s labour and a CCTV system for Joseph.
“They were just so generous and the way they handled it, they’ve gone out of their way to help me.
“I’d given up a bit but the positive is, the empathy people have shown me.”
