Ben Barba sacked by Cronulla Sharks
The Cronulla Sharks have released Ben Barba from his contract effective immediately.
It comes as reports surfaced Barba tested positive to cocaine following the club’s Grand Final win over Melbourne back in October.
In a statement, Barba has said now is the time to take responsibility for his off field behaviour.
‘ I am accountable for myself and my actions and if I don’t address them now I will certainly ruin my career and more importantly my life and that of my family.
‘I hope to return to the game at some stage and am very grateful for the support of the Cronulla Sharks,’ Barba said.
The 2012 Dally M medal winner has a history of off-field behaviour indiscretions, having admitted to a severe gambling problem as well as issues with alcohol.
