The gender-neutral discussion has taken many forms, but one school is now extending it to uniforms.

Carey Baptist Grammar School in Kew has a gender equity team leading the charge.

Consisting of students from Year 7 – 12, the team put forth the initiative for girls to have the choice to wear pants as well as skirts.

Principal of Carey Philip Grutzer says the team aims to keep in touch with the ‘progressive nature’ of society.

‘They are looking at issues of equality at Carey and…the diversity of our school,’ Principal Gritzer told Neil Mitchell.

The initiative comes in place at the start of the 2017 school year.
