The AFL has been hit with another alcohol-related issue, with North Melbourne youngster Jy Simpkin injuring his ankle after it was run over by a motorcycle.

The Roos said the 19-year-old had been drinking and stepped into the path of the motorcyclist while crossing the road in West Melbourne early on Sunday morning.

The club said the motorcyclist was not seriously injured, however, scans revealed lateral ligament damage to his ankle.

Police have indicated they will issue fines to Simpkin for being drunk in a public place and for crossing the road on a red light.

North Melbourne said it was “disappointed” with Simpkin and that it would “not accept irresponsible behaviour” from its players.

He’s likely to miss between 2-4 weeks as a result of his injury, with Simpkin also imposing a minimum six-month alcohol ban on himself.
