TAC won’t support Matthew Guy’s plan to increase Princes Freeway speed limit
Increasing the speed limit to 110km/hr hour along the Princes Freeway will significantly increase crash risk for a “tiny time saving”, according to the TAC.
As reported in the Herald Sun, Victoria Police have been blindsided by a Victorian Opposition plan to raise the speed limit on the Princes Freeway to 110km/hr between Corio and Melbourne.
Transport Accident Commission CEO, Joe Calafiore, told Ross and John it’s not something the TAC would support.
“This is a debate that I think has gone on for about 30 years,” Mr Calafiore said.
“Experts from the Monash Research Centre say if you up the speed limit you up the crash risk.
“It’s a really tiny time saving for a huge travel risk.”

Mr Calafiore said his team regularly briefs all sides of politics but was unsure whether Matthew Guy’s team asked for the TAC’s opinion on this specific plan.
