Labor’s candidate for Batman Ged Kearney says she brings a ‘lifetime of experience’

Jacqui Felgate

High profile former union leader Ged Kearney says she has taken a big-risk as Labor gears up for a fight against the Greens for the marginal seat of Batman.

The Liberals today announced the party wouldn’t be running a candidate in next month’s by-election.

Ms Kearney told Tom Elliott she is campaigning on a platform of health and education.

“What I bring to the seat of Batman is a lifetime of experience,” she said.

Responding to reports she doesn’t live in the electorate, Ms Kearney says she lives just outside Batman in a neighbouring electorate.

She says her family lives in the area and she has a strong connection to the inner north seat.

“I live in the inner north, a whisker over the Merri Creek,” she said.

“I still have a great deal of heart and connection to the area.”
