Maxwell brought into ODI squad as cover for hamstrung Finch
Glenn Maxwell has been called up to the Australia squad for the fourth one-day international.
Maxwell replaces in-form opener Aaron Finch, who will miss the Australia Day match at Adelaide Oval due to a minor hamstring strain.
Maxwell was not selected in the final XI.
The enigmatic Maxwell is drafted in just a few weeks after Australia captain Steve Smith urged him to curb the “funky stuff” following his omission from the ODI squad.
Maxwell, who has made one ODI hundred and 15 half-centuries, will still be available for Melbourne Stars’ final Big Bash League clash with Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG on Saturday.
Meanwhile, England captain Eoin Morgan confirmed that paceman Liam Plunkett’s hamstring injury will keep him out of the rest of series.
Plunkett is expected to be sidelined for around 10 days after pulling up having bowled just 1.2 overs in the third ODI.
