Joe Root has not remerged form the dressing room following the lunch break, with reports suggesting he has again gone down ill in the break.

Root looked weary throughout the first session and has undoubtedly felt very crook during the break.

 LUNCH!

England have survived to lunch on Day 5 with a weary Joe Root emerging from a hospital bed to return to the crease following the wicket of Moeen Ali.

Root was in hospital overnight with dehydration and it was reported that Root may not make it to the SCG at all today.

He has been gutsy throughout and has passed 50 as he and Jonny Bairstow look to bat the day out and force a draw.

Nathan Lyon got the wicket of Ali – who has fallen to Lyon seven times this series – for 13. Australia still require 5 wickets to win the match and end the series 4-0.

Joe Root at the wicket!

Joe Root has emerged from the pavillion to resume his innings at the SCG after arriving at the ground late – coming from hospital in Sydney.

In a pretty gutsy showing by the English skipper he has passed fifty for the fifth time in the series and will now work with Jonny Bairstow to save the Test.

Moeen Ali fell victim to Nathan Lyon once again with the Aussie off spinner picking up Ali’s wicket for the seventh time this series. Lyon trapped Ali on the pads after tying him down early this morning – replays showed that the ball was going to hit middle stump. Ali did not review.

BREAKING NEWS

In Breaking News – English Skipper Joe Root has been taken to hospital – said to be suffering from severe dehydration and may not return to the crease on Day 5.

The English skipper will NOT be in the middle at the start of play this afternoon with Moeen Ali to come to the crease in his place.

DAY 5

The final day of the Test Match summer is upon us – as the much anticipated Ashes series draws to its close. Australia will end the day today on the stage with the Urn they crave so dearly – back on Australian soil.

Australia are six wickets away from victory on the final day after Joe Root and Johny Bairstow batted the fourth day out – they will hope that they can bat the day out for an unlikely draw. The odds are stacked against the visitors though who will be keen to end this tour and look ahead to the one day series starting next Sunday in Melbourne.

Nathan Lyon struck twice on day four, bowling Alastair Cook for 10 before dismissing Dawid Malan – LBW for 5. Mitchell Starc trapped Mark Stoneman in front of his stumps for a duck and Pat Cummins forced James Vince to drive off the back foot – he edged to slip for 18.

It is expected the Australians will wrap things up before the Tea break on Day 5 – needing to remove one of Root or Bairstow to expose the uncomfortable English tail. It will then only be a matter of time before the Aussies make it 4-0 and receive crickets biggest prize.

Keep clicking back for updates on what should be an exciting Day 5 at the SCG.
