Maddinson’s Test future in doubt after another poor innings
Nic Maddinson’s Test future is in doubt after another poor innings.
In particular, his dismissal was concerning, being bowled by Yasir Shah after dancing down the wicket and taking a wild swing.
Maddinson made 22 off 55 balls.
Former Test batsmen Mike Hussey and Tom Moody said it puts Maddinson’s immediate Test in doubt.
Hussey said Maddinson’s body language after the wicket suggested he knows how delicate his place in the team is.
‘You can only imagine what’s going through his mind,’ Hussey said as the number six walked off the MCG.
‘I’m sure he’d be thinking ‘I wonder if I’ve played my last innings in Test match cricket’. Not in his career, but certainly in this phase.’
Moody said Maddinson just lost patience after a battle with Shah.
‘If he’s going to succeed in Test cricket, he’s got to accept that he may have to stay in that contest for more than just an hour,’ Moody said.
