Melbourne set to receive security boost for New Year’s Eve celebrations
New Year’s Eve celebrations will cost the City of Melbourne around three million dollars.
That includes $500,000 worth of fireworks.
The remaining $2.5m goes towards security, public transport and safety barriers.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle tells Tony Jones there will be a slight step-up in security compared to previous CBD celebrations.
DOYLE: ‘We want to make sure we don’t have a repeat on what happened last year.’
JONES: ‘Are you talking about Moomba?’
DOYLE: ‘I am.’
Doyle says, ‘If we need to put more resources in, we’ll do it.’
The Lord Mayor is expected to make further New Year’s Eve announcements on Friday.
Giving 3AW Mornings a little teaser he says, ‘There will be a third more fire works this year!’
