Council goes cheap on Christmas decorations, splashes cash on its own party instead!
Tom Elliott has canned Port Phillip Council over its hypocritical stance towards Christmas.
It’s emerged the council is spending just $4000 on festive street decorations.
When asked why, the council mayor said in statement it was due to its “diverse and secular community.”
But it is, however, spending almost $60,000 of ratepayers money on its Christmas party.
“Imagine my surprise when I learned this!” Tom Elliott said on Thursday.
“It simply does not pass the pub test.”
City of Port Phillip councillor Marcus Pearl addressed the issue on 3AW Drive.
“It is hard to justify,” he confessed.
But he wants to see more spent on decorations.
