Almost 300,000 Victorians are set to get a rebate on their energy bills, with the Andrews Government announcing a plan for rebates in the new year.

As reported in the Herald Sun, the biggest winners from the scheme will be government concession card holders, who could save between $254 and $720, depending on where they live.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio, attempted to explain the plan to Tom Elliott.

“As of the first of January the three retailers will all go ahead in increases in their headline rates,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.

“Once people start to get their bills they will see what those headline rates are and they will see what the value of the rebate is.”

Tom Elliott said we “needed to learn more” about this scheme.

“If you think your power bill is going to get cheaper just hold that thought for the time being,” he said.

“I for one am not fully convinced.”
