A 65-year-old man has been injured during a home invasion at Hampton.

Police say three male offenders broke in through the front door of the Lawson Street home just before 11pm on Sunday night.

The home owner, a 65-year-old man, confronted them.

He suffered head injuries in the altercation before the offenders fled.

The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three intruders – described as tall and wearing hoodies – fled north on Smith Street.

In April this year, the property next door was targeted in a non-fatal drive-by shooting which was believed to be a case of mistaken identity.
