Is cricket doing “irreparable damage” to itself?
Sheffield Shield selection policy is under fire.
Victoria’s primary objective for Shield selection is to produce Test cricketers, not necessarily the best 11 players to win the game at hand.
Several powerbrokers and former players have voiced concerns that the policy could do “irreparable damage” to the game.
And Victoria’s general manager of cricket Shaun Graf told Sportsday he understands the criticism.
“But you’ve got to look at the big picture,” Graf said.
“At this point in time, we’re looking at is as a holistic approach to Australian cricket.”
