Senate president Stephen Parry may hold dual citizenship
Senate president Stephen Parry has informed his senior Coalition colleagues he may hold dual citizenship.
The Australian newspaper is reporting the Liberal Senator may need to resign his position.
It comes after the High Court disqualified five members of parliament, including Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, due to their dual citizenship status.
Macquarie Radio’s Federal Parliament reporter Laura Parr crossed to Tom Elliott.
“It’s one of the most senior parliamentary position in parliament,” she said.
“What we understand with him is that he has sought formal advice from British authorities about whether he is a dual citizen.”
The Tasmanian Senator’s father moved to Australia from the UK in the 1950s.
“He’s saying if he finds out he is a dual citizen he will resign straight away,” she said.
