Push to make cyclists and motorcyclists wear Hi-Vis branded ‘unrealistic’
There’s a push to make high visibility vests compulsory under law for all cyclists and motorbike riders.
But the proposal has been dismissed as “unrealistic” by the president of the Australian Cycling Alliance.
Dromana man Gerry Shepherd says anything to make cyclists more visible to motorists made sense.
ACA president Edward Hore agreed with the principle, but said it would be impossible to enforce.
“Let’s be realistic here, if a cyclist isn’t going to buy lights – which are required – he’s certainly not going to buy a hi-vis vest,” Mr Hore said.
“It’s unfortunate.”
