Calls for standards in rental properties in Australia
Melburnians sweltered through scorching conditions yesterday as the mercury reached near 40 degrees.
It’s lead to calls for regulations around heating and air-conditioning units in rental properties, but landlords aren’t happy.
Housing expert Wendy Stone says one in four households are renters.
‘Australia is lightly regulated in terms of the rental sector, it’s becoming a real problem for us,’ she told Tony Jones.
‘But being able to expect a minimal level of comfort, basic heating, hot water service, insulation…some of these sorts of things are actually quite cost efficient but can make a really big difference to liveability and running costs of houses.’
