Public to be the judge on city buskers
Melbourne buskers could lose their permits under new street performance rules by Melbourne City Council.
Special acts like portrait artists, caricaturists and balloon art sculptors are among those who will not get busking permits renewed.
The public will also get their say on who gets premium busking permits under a new open auditions system.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle told Ross and John buskers will need to re-audition every two years and the public will help to determine who makes the cut.
“You have to have some sort of quality to add rather than just noise,” he said.
“We’re going to make auditions available to the public as well.”
