Major General Brendan Nottle has begun his walk for the homeless to Canberra.

With a team of supporters by his side, Mr Nottle has begun the 700km journey.

Over the next 40 days, he’ll visit regional communities along the route.

His aim: To take the message of homelessness to the corridors of power.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten joined Mr Nottle on the first leg of the walk.
