Whole body vibration proves beneficial for bone and muscle strength
Could the days of slugging it out at the gym be over?
Researchers in the US have found 20 minutes of whole body vibration is just as effective as 45 minutes on a treadmill.
Using obese mice, they found significant benefits to metabolism and bone strength.
Meghan McGee-Lawrence, lead researcher at Augusta University in Georgia, says the mice needed no additional exercise other than just standing there.
‘We took a diabetic mice and subjected them to a vibration load and then looked to see if we saw any improvement to the diabetes,’ she told Ross and John.
She says the human studies are already ongoing, but animals are still vital to research.
