Calls for Australia to follow Britain’s lead in relaxing dress rules in parliament have been shot down by a man known as “Mr Manners”.

Victorian Greens MP Adam Bandt says men should no longer be forced to wear neckties.

But David Meagher, author of The A to Z of Modern Manners, told Ross and John it was a ridiculous idea.

“I think it’s possibly the most stupid idea I’ve heard from a politician in quite some time, to tell you the truth,” he said.
