Concerns have been raised about the sale of weapons to minors after an 11-year-old child bought a knife at a Melbourne store.

Anna told Tony Jones, filling in for an ill Neil Mitchell, her son bought the pocket knife from a store in Camberwell without telling his parents.

“He didn’t tell us, it fell off his pocket in the morning,” Anna said.

“We were so furious.

“He said he sees a lot of bad people around and sometimes is afraid.”

The store later confirmed the incident to 3AW Mornings senior producer Heidi Murphy.

“They are not aware of any laws that prohibit the sale of a knife to a minor,” Heidi said.

“The shop is very apologetic.”
