Mornington Shire mayor Anthony Marsh has been grilled after eventgoers were fined for illegally parking at the Red Hill show yesterday despite a lack of clear signage.

He told 3AW Sunday Mornings most fines issued by parking inspectors are the result of complaints but conceded temporary signage would make it clearer for eventgoers.

“We could be more proactive in putting up temporary signs … most people aren’t going to park in that area for 51 other weeks of the year,” he said.

He’s also weighed in on a situation with a Mount Martha independent bakery owner, who operated a honesty box system, who has been shut down and forced to obtain a permit following a complaint from a resident.

“We need to look at what we can do to enable that stuff, we shouldn’t just be – red tape,” he said.
