A homeowner has been left confused by new land tax rules, saying she “cannot believe” there hasn’t been more outrage over the changes.

Rather than paying land tax pro-rata, property owners as of January 1 are being slugged fees for the entire calendar year upfront.

Katie told Jacqui Felgate she was “absolutely perplexed” after being handed a large land tax bill despite only owning a property for two weeks this year.

“We sold a property that settled on January 14,” she explained on 3AW Drive.

“And when we got our land tax in, we it had (a bill) from January 1 to the end of this year.”
