Most Melburnians seem to understand the need for our new concrete blocks.

And we’ve been told they’re only a short-term measure before some “more attractive” options are inserted.

But less than a fortnight in, Neil Mitchell has discovered a worrying trend.

Cigarettes, graffiti, rubbish… there’s even traces of blood.

So what do we do?

Police Minister Lisa Neville has told Neil Mitchell the City of Melbourne are reluctant to have them painted.

“They think it undermines the security message that these are here to protect the city from terrorism,” said Minister Neville.

“I think you can do both.

“We want these things to be apart of our city, not being in our face all the time.”
