They’re the best of the best in Victoria Police, but little is known about them.

But that’s about to change.

The Special Operations Group is the elite squad who’s called in whenever there’s a siege, bomb threat or shooting spree.

Neil Mitchell spoke with “Sierra” – a former member of the SOG who features in a new book titled ‘Sons Of God’ written by Heath O’Loughlin.

He gave a fascinating insight on Tuesday, recalling several incidents – including the moment he helped arrest a “laughing” Martin Bryant after the Port Arthur massacre.

“It’ll stay with me for the rest of my life,” Sierra confessed.

Neil Mitchell: “Were you tempted (to shoot him)?”

Sierra: “We all go through those thought processes but, ultimately, you’re paid to arrest them and put them before the courts.”
