Israel and Hamas have reportedly agreed to a ceasefire deal after 15 months of war in Gaza.

The agreement would see the release of hundreds of hostages, with the ceasefire set to take effect on the 19th of January.

“That is a big, big moment in time, it’s fantastic,” 3AW host Mark Allen said.

US President Joe Biden has confirmed Israel and Hamas have agreed to a deal, but the Israeli Prime Minister’s office says it has not agreed and the deal will go before cabinet.

Middle East analyst, Dr Rodger Shanahan, then unpacked the ceasefire deal, and claimed the change of US administration in a few days definitely had an impact on the timing of the deal.

“It’s in three phases, there’s six weeks to each phase at the moment,” Dr Shanahan said on 3AW Breakfast.
