Geelong councillor of the Hamlyn Heights Ward, Eddy Kontelj, has outlined his plans to reinstate Australia Day celebrations on January 26.

The City of Greater Geelong will not celebrate the national day for the second year in a row, with councillor Kontelj leading the charge to bring the celebrations back into the city from 2026 onwards.

“What I’d like to do is use council as a platform to instill national pride back into our city and back into the community,” he told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Mornings.
