Australian tennis legend Pat Cash believes world number one Jannik Sinner’s failed drug test was merely an accident.

The Italian is currently caught up in controversy, having failed the test but not being suspended for any matches.

Cash said Sinner’s failed test was accidental, calling on the likes of Nick Kyrgios – who has been a harsh critic of Sinner – to back off.

“Sometimes you just need to have some common sense (in regards to doping),” he said on 3AW.

“I know Nick Kyrgios doesn’t like the idea of common sense and he wants to ban Jannik Sinner, but that’s pretty harsh.

“I know Jannik and his coaching team and I firmly believe it was an accident.”
