‘It’s not broken’: Heidi Murphy weighs in on push by teenagers to lower voting age
Heidi Murphy has given her opinion on the push by teenagers to lower the voting age from 18 to 16.
It comes as data released by advocacy group ‘Make It 16’ show 16 and 17-year-olds paid more than $270 million in taxes between 2011 and 2021, and therefore should have an opportunity to head to the ballot box.
“It’s not broken so we don’t need to fix it,” the 3AW host said.

Children’s and human rights expert and professor of law at Monash University Paula Gerber offered a different opinion, claiming lowering the voting age is a “good idea”.
“I think that the trend globally is around the age of voting to be lowered,” Ms Gerber said on 3AW Drive.
