‘Rude shock’: Police union boss issues grim prediction for Victoria’s yearly crime statistics
Secretary of the Victorian Police Association Wayne Gatt has issued a grim prediction for the yearly crime statistics in Victoria.
The statistics are set to be released on Thursday, and the police union boss says the state is in for a “rude shock”.
“I’d be very, very surprised if those figures aren’t increased substantially,” Gatt told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings.

“It is a failure in government when community safety continues to decline,” he said.
Gatt is also hoping the new Victorian Treasurer will take on the task of revolving a long-standing pay dispute, which continues to drag on.
“He certainly hasn’t intervened in the last four months to solve this … it’s been a handball off to the Fair Work Commission … when you’re in government, you have to make the hard decisions,” Gatt said when asked about Tim Pallas’ resignation.
